Singing June 30th?
About 15 board NETCS members - board members and non-board-members, attended a called Board meeting Tuesday, April 24, to discuss two big issues and a handful of lesser ones. Here's what was decided:
- June 30: The Symphony League invited Choral Society to join the SS Orchestra for their outdoor concert on the square on June 30th, celebrating dedication of the war memorial that will have taken place earlier in the day. It was discovered that the sound equipment the League had ordered was not sufficient to mic us as well, so we would have to spend $1,000 to get the sound system needed for Choral Society to be heard. The $1000 is in addition to some undetermined expenses we will incur to secure muusic for the 9 pieces we will be singing. In spite of logistics issues,, unexpexted expense, and uncertainty about whether Choral Society will really be heard and seen, the board voted to particiapte in the event - provided monitors can be provided so we can hear ourselves and the orchestra.
- Risers: For several reasons, Choral Society needs to purchase risers for our performances in places like the Civic Center. The board reviewed a quote from Wenger Corporation for the risers we would need. The cost will be in the neighborhood of $20,000, a number that draw our reserves down to a minimal level. The decision was made to negotiate with Wenger to be sure we are being offered their best price, then to revisit our decision in following board meetings.
- Fans: In the "lesser issues" category, we decided to proceed with the purchase of give-away fans that will advertise Choral Society on one side and the Memorial on the other. We will order one thousand fans, and distribute them during the June 30 festivities.
- Best-Of CDs: We discussed the idea of our 15th-year Best-Of CD set being made up of three instead of two CDs, separating our spiritual music from popular music perfomances. Questions linger about packaging and pricing for a 3-CD set, so no decision was made.
- Costuming: We discussed how to handle costuming that we give to members unable to pay - whether we should ask for them to be returned to Choral Society or remain property of the recipient. It was decided that we would ask the recipients of gratis costuming to keep those items, but to return them if and when they leave Choral Society.
